Of course sun guns and tasers are good self defense weapons but Pepper Spray is a very good alternative. The reason why is because it incapacitates an attacker for a longer period of time by limiting their ability to function. They cough, they choke, they have trouble seeing and it causes a really severe burning sensation on their skin. This in turn gives you a better chance of escaping the situation.
Pepper Spray is extremely easy to use. It is as simple as “Point – Press”. Point it at an assailant’s face and press the button. In addition to the ease of use it is also less expensive and most of the time just as effective. It has the capability of saving your life if you find yourself in a dangerous situation. The main ingredient used in pepper spray is cayenne pepper. Cayenne pepper causes a major burning sensation when applied to the skin, and will cause extreme asphyxiation when inhaled. For these reasons, and for best results, it is recommended to be sprayed into the face of the attacker. After spraying the attacker, rest assure that they will be disabled long enough for you to flee and seek help.
When pepper spray is introduced to the eyes of the attacker, it will cause the eyelids and surrounding skin to become very swollen and irritated. The eyes will eventually become very swollen from the reaction to the pepper spray, and as a result the eyes will completely shut down causing temporary blindness. This will allow a safe exit from the scene and will also prohibit the attacker from seeing the direction in which you fled.
The effect caused by pepper spray are not permanent, and most effects will start to clear within 30 minutes. There has been no reported casualties from the use of pepper spray as a deterrent, and no long term side effects have been detected as a result from it being sprayed into the face.
As you have seen, pepper spray ranks right up there with other self defense products. It will effectively disable an attacker. You don’t have to get close to use it. When you consider buying a personal protection product really take a look at buying pepper spray. It is probably the least expensive self defense product you can buy.
